Can I Really Lose Type 2 Diabetes?

One recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) found that 73% of people with diabetes who underwent gastric banding combined with conventional therapy achieved remission, which is defined as normal blood sugar levels and no need for diabetes medication. By contrast, just 13% of those people who received only conventional therapy went into remission.
Additionally, within days of surgery and long before significant weight comes off, many patients with type 2 diabetes experience complete remission. This phenomenon has led some to believe that metabolic surgery may also be appropriate for diabetic individuals who are of normal weight or only slightly overweight.
